What a great Homecoming concert by @thecastellows at The Plant in Dothan, Alabama. This coincided with the Homecoming EP release: www.thecastellowsmusic.com - I got my CD's :) Porch pirates got the first 3 I ordered but I ordered another 3. The show was for a good cause BTW, raising funds for scholarships for local 4-H groups. BONUS - I sent this year's YouTube revenue from this fan channel to the Barbour County, Alabama and Quitman County, Georgia 4-H groups the band and all the sponsors was supporting. Many things: We were treated to some new cover songs like Joan Jett's I Hate Myself For Loving You with Ellie on 'electric' (Aside - have you noticed Lily calls electric guitar 'electric' when introducing Blake? .. no need to say 'guitar'). We were also treated to some unreleased original songs like Heartland. Because as Lily says 'they love it'. We hung out with our "wingman from Milwaukee", another Castellows-crazy fan like us we met in Clay County earlier in the year. We ate a whole bag of Georgia peaches. Mmmmmm. BTW the pre-show intro band was Lynryd Skynyrd's "Georgia Peaches", not the usual Johnny Cash "God`s Gonna Cut You Down". This was a peach-perfect performance for sure. I rented a red convertible Mustang in Atlanta to drive to the venue. All the cool kids drive Mustangs - my first used car was a straight six 1980 Mustang and Ellie bought herself a cheap Mustang according to Freeway lyrics. It didn't rain! Someone is looking out for The Castellows. Rain stopped before the Malone, NY show, before the NOLA Jazz Fest show and passed us by for this show despite the forecasts. Maybe a bit of rain during Hurricane would have been poetic/cinematic though :) We heard some country classics we have not heard in a whole like Red Dirt Girl, new covers like All That Glitters (Is Not Gold), and Highwayman. And like in Come Together, each of the ladies gets to sing a verse in that last one. Sweet! The opening acts were great - I was blown away by Stewart Scott Bell. We met a lot of nice people, as usual, in the line up. We lined up almost 3 hours before doors opened to get a good spot up front. Many locals from where the ladies are from were there. Ellie said most of the people they know and love were in the crowd. Great scenery and educational opportunities on the drive from and back to Atlanta. We say the Chattahoochee River and visited The Civil War museum in Columbus, and the civil rights sites in Montgomery. I'm Canadian and as do not know a lot of American history (future engineers take all the science classes in high school). I watched Ken Burn's Civil War series when I came back home. Still more to learn and see. Saw a Braves game the day before flying back home. Chop chop!
