Editor’s opinion: It’s fair to say Andrew Paull’s casting in the 4Kids anime era has stood the test of time, given he returned to the role in the X&Y Mega Evolution special saga. Paull does a excellent job at portraying Steven’s reserved, passionate and steel-minded character. He could be gentle and playful but also show a confidence and strength you’d expect from a champion. Paull usually doesn’t disappoint in any project he’s in, and Steven Stone is no exception. Tom Wayland is at a disadvantage with so little to work with, he does a serviceable job but not much more than that. In Masters, Steven is played by Xander Mobus, who opts to use a deeper... seductive quality? Which is just weird and unnecessary. And the way he delivers Steven’s signature line: “When it comes down to it, I’m just the strongest there is right now.” honestly makes him sound unlikable. I don’t know how his performance went this wrong, but there really is no contest here. Andrew Paul is without a doubt the definitive Steven Stone!
