Can I Buy International Gift Cards?

As the consumer guide to gift cards, this is one of the questions I get asked the most. People want to know if they can buy a gift card in the United States to be used outside of the country, or if they can send a gift card from the U.S. to a friend or family member internationally. Or, they live outside of the United States and want to buy a USA-based gift card to use themselves or send to a friend living in the country. The varieties of this question differ, but the basic question is the same: Can I buy an international gift card? The short answer is no. But in this video, I'll explain why you can't use a U.S. gift card outside of the United States or you can't buy a U.S. gift card if you don't live in the United States--and that includes websites. To buy a gift card from GiftCards.com, for example, you must place the order from within the border, have a debit or credit card that is linked to an address in the United States and you have to ship the card to an address within the same country. Why? I'll share why you can't send a gift card to someone outside of the United States and some workarounds for when you really want to give a gift card to someone in another country.
