Seeing that this two-track tape barely even clocks in at two minutes, I’m gonna go ahead and do my best to get this write-up done within the same, teensy-weensy time frame. Ready, setty, spaghetti. Alright, so, Sunk is a harsh, nomadic hardcore band hailing from – uh, shit, somewhere in California, I’m pretty sure. Yeah, California, specifically... um... wait, I’ve got this jotted down somewhere, just give me a sec. Aaand I completely ran out of time before I could even figure out what city this band’s coming from. Alright. Well, I’m, like, eighty percent sure that the city’s name starts with an M, so go ahead and deduce their location yourselves if you care that much. According to Google, there’s approximately 38 cities in California that start with the letter M, so just work your way through the list and pick whichever one that makes you feel the happiest. Personally, I really like the sound of “McFarland”, partly because it’s almost like the last name of the guy who makes all those shitty shows on television. But anyways, back to what I was saying: Sunk is a hardcore band from California, with this being the third EP to be released under their name, excluding their live tape. Released by the group’s respective label, Abnormal Broadcasting (who you may recognize as the label that’s released tapes from Sunk-associated acts such as The Must and The Snails, as well as a handful of assumedly-unrelated acts, like Nightmare Enterprises, P.E.A.R.L., and S.B.F.) in late September, this tape dotes only two purgative bouts of pummeling riffage as opposed to the four found in the project’s preceding EP, which was released back in early 2016. This means that the tape is more in line with the group’s mid-2015 demo, where the tape’s two tracks blasted through your speakers, in its entirety, before you could even begin to digest its disgustingly-abrasive rhythms. So, if you wind up buying a tape from the link below, expect to flip that sucker a million times over. The fact that this tape’s overwhelming sense of energy and urgency was brought forth by a single person makes this EP even more impressive: Grant, the vocalist in the group’s live line-up, records all of Sunk’s material by himself. According to Grant, this self-titled EP was “super last minute”, being recorded only a few days prior to its release on Abnormal Broadcasting’s Bandcamp page in order to put out new material for a band that has been relatively dormant in terms of releases. Thanks to Grant, we’ve now got two more punchy bouts of punchy, utterly-ballistic hardcore to violate our hearing receptors with, and man, do they violate. The introductory track, “Defeat”, opens with a heavy-handed, crushing tempo before escalating to a proportionally-devastating rager, utilizing a tense bassline to bridge the gap between the darkened pulses of unmistakable hardcore energy. The follow-up track, “Concede”, boasts some chugging, groove-driven rhythms, confining themselves well to controlled bursts of thrash-worthy riffage as opposed to hastily expunging itself into a frantic, relentless strain of heavy sounds like in “Defeat. Despite this tape’s extremely-short run time, I can definitely stand to listen to this tape on repeat for, say, an hour. Which I have. While writing this thing. On the internet. For the awaiting crowds of, like, ten people. Fuck you. TRACK LIST: Defeat – 0:00 Concede – 1:04 DOWNLOAD: https://abnormalbroadcasting.bandcamp...
