Several citizens have expressed gratitude to the government as power supply stabilises across the country, with businesses confirming a return to normal operations after months of disruption caused by load-shedding during the worst drought in Zambia’s history. The stability reflects measures put in place immediately after the 2024 drought, most of which were fully actualised by late 2025, including emergency power imports, diversification away from hydropower and the entry of independent power producers to support the grid. As supply improves, President Hakainde Hichilema has called for the accelerated completion of power projects already under construction, including regional interconnectors such as the Zambia–Tanzania link and additional solar developments. Under the Presidential solar initiative, each constituency will host about 2 MW of solar capacity, enabling communities to own income-generating energy assets. Government says the same urgency applied to keeping large manufacturers operating has also been extended to small and medium businesses, with investments in solar, thermal power at Maamba, and other private projects aimed at ensuring that no enterprise is forced to shut down again because of power shortages.
