The countdown to summer is on and a special program from the federal government is recommending the best ways to save money ... and they have a bold recommendation for your thermostat! On this episode of #WakeUpCLT To Go we're asking where you set the thermostat during summer and if you're willing to be a little uncomfortable to save the environment. The Department of Energy's Energy Star program says the best temperature to do both is 78 degrees. But many people say 78 is too high, especially in the sweltering Carolina heat. Energy officials recommend leaving your thermostat at 78 degrees during the day before bringing it up to 82 at night while you're sleeping or not home. Rather than running HVAC all the time, they recommend using an extra fan to spread the cool air around lower areas in your home. Another tip? Don't put electric appliances like lamps or TVs next to your sensor. The extra heat from those devices can trigger your HVAC to run longer than necessary. #WakeUpCLT #HVAC #Summer
