SOUNDBITE (English) David Buss, VP of Commercial and Governmental Affairs, The Boring Company: "When we came to Nashville with Music City Loop, Nashville was an exciting area for us. It was a growing dynamic city that is experiencing some of those pains that come with growth. We actually present a very unique solution that can complement other transit solutions." SOUNDBITE (English) David Buss, VP of Commercial and Governmental Affairs, The Boring Company: "It is funded by us, so at no cost to taxpayers. And we're looking forward to getting started here, hopefully, in Q1." 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Lindsay Lee, Nashville resident and chair of the Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities: "They didn't really commit. They just said, 'Oh yeah, we're ADA compliant. We really care about inclusivity, and we'll try our best to review the questions and get back to you,' which is not a commitment, it's evasive." 6. SOUNDBITE (English) David Buss, VP of Commercial and Governmental Affairs, The Boring Company: "Lithium ion battery fires obviously are a very scary thing. Their incidence and potential for happening in our tunnel system is very low." ++SOUNDBITE PARTIALLY COVERED++ 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Clay Capp, Metro Nashville council member: "It's not productive of trust or transparency to try to fob our questions off into emails that the public will not see. It's not productive of trust and transparency for so many of my colleagues who have asked you direct questions, you've given indirect answers to." 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Delishia Porterfield, Metro Nashville council member: "I'm going to encourage any of my colleagues that are still here to please vote in support of the resolution opposing The Boring Company. We heard from constituents today about their concerns. We've heard from colleagues about the concerns. To be clear that resolution does not stop the project and I've been very transparent about that but but it does do. As it gets us on the record saying that this is not something that we support." 10. Wide of The Boring Company officials at the metro council meeting ASSOCIATED PRESS Nashville, Tennessee - 20 January 2026 11. Wide of construction at The Music City Loop entrance STORYLINE: Elon Musk’s proposed Tesla tunnel loop under the streets of Nashville was met with opposition by some residents and local leaders who complained about a lack of transparency and input from residents. Representatives of the Boring Company spoke at a council meeting on Thursday (Feb. 19) to answer questions about regulations, safety and access to the Music City Loop. In July, the Boring Company announced plans for the Music City Loop, featuring an initial 13-mile (21-kilometer) stretch that would include connecting the airport and downtown. They promised a project that would come at no cost to taxpayers, albeit with free use of some state land near the Capitol. The first section of the tunnel is supposed to be operational by the first quarter of 2027.
