Talanome is a metronomic aid specifically catered towards Carnatic music. It offers 310 different talas and counting - the 175 combinations of the Suladi Sapta Tala System, 6 Chapu talas are just the start. With its Make Your Own Talam feature, you can create any rhythmic pattern you like, whether Carnatic or non-Carnatic. In fact, Talanome already comes bundled with the 108 Ashtottara Sata Talas, Dr. M. Balamuralikrisha’s Mukhi Talas, Pete Lockett’s percussive fusion talams, and even a Fibonacci Talam that was popularized by BC Manjunath in his exploration of rhythmic konnakol or solkattu. It has a precision sound engine that keeps a precise beat no matter the speed and complexity of the rhythm. It comes with pleasing and real-life sound options, and even allows you to pick the Shruti of the tunable sounds, and comes with a host of other features (background play, inter-app audio support, etc). In this video, we'll walk through how to select the Talam, Jathi and Nadai combinations of the Suladi Sapta Talas, and how to get more information about each Talam combination. There are 7 Talam Families: Dhruva Talam Matya Talam Rupaka Talam Jhampa Talam Triputa Talam Ata Talam Eka Talam Each of these Talas can have 5 different Jathis or types: Tisra Jathi Chatusra Jathi Khanda Jathi Misra Jathi Sankeerna Jathi for a total of 35 different combinations. Each of these combinations itself can have 5 different Nadais (or Gatis): Tisra Nadai/Gati Chatusra Nadai/Gati Khanda Nadai/Gati Misra Nadai/Gati Sankeerna Nadai/Gati for a Grand Total of 175 different combinations. For each, you can get all its information, like structure, number of Aksharas, number of Mathras, Traditional name, and visual representation - all aside from actually playing the Talam, of course! :-) In the next video in this "Talanome How-To Series", we will talk about Alternate Nadai Sound Options for Talanome.
