Making a ring in 140 seconds! Icarus session - Austin Moore

My name is Austin Moore. I am a professional silversmith in Atascadero, CA. In preparation for presenting at a live Icarus Session in my local community, I did a lot of at home practice. This video is one of those practice sessions. A little background, which I feel in significant: Part of the purpose of the Icarus Session is to inspire others to get off their butts and make something. To put themselves out there and at least try to go beyond "dreaming their Dream" and actually live it. Which is fitting, since in 2009 I quit my day job working as a designer/draftsman for an Architecture firm, and started teaching myself to make jewelry. I knew about as much about making jewelry as I do about quantum mechanics. Which is pretty much nothing, save to say that I know it exists, but otherwise, flat out nothing. Now, in 2013, I can confidently say that I am happier, and more successful than I would have been had I stayed where I was at. I still consider myself a Novice at what I do... I would not consider anyone in this trade to be a true master until they had at least 15 to 20 years under their belt. But I enjoy (almost) every moment of my work. Aside from the smashed thumbs and burnt fingertips, I love my job, and I hope that everyone out there can find something that they too love and can use to bring something to this world to make it just a little bit more inspiring.
