You won’t believe how calm these gorillas are during medical training! At the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the gorilla troop voluntarily participates in blood-draw training—no sedation, no stress, and no restraints. It’s all done with patience, trust, and a few tasty treats like grapes and romaine lettuce. In this behind-the-scenes look, you’ll see how Freddy, the troop’s experienced matriarch, calmly places her arm into a special enclosure for a simulated blood draw—all while baby Jameela tags along, learning by watching. Kayembe, always curious, is the first to check out the setup, but it’s Freddy who truly steals the show. 🍇 Later in the video, Kebi and her daughter Kunda take their turns. Kunda even tries to sneak a taste of her mom’s electrolyte drink in the cutest way. And yes—we’ve linked a separate video showing more of Kunda’s full training session in the description below! 🍼 You’ll also witness a heartwarming moment with Tusa—usually shy and reserved—stepping up to participate in training. It’s a huge breakthrough for the lowest-ranking member of the troop and the first time that we have witnessed it. And when Nneka decides she’s not in the mood to train, that’s perfectly fine too. At this zoo, participation is always voluntary. We also include footage of Mokolo, the silverback, calmly receiving a simulated injection—and Kayembe doing the same. No drama. No resistance. Just trust. OUTDOOR TRAINING VIDEO - • How Zoo Keepers Help Gorillas Thrive: Bott...
