In Türkiye, two thirds of women are either unemployed or inactive. In rural parts of the country, they also face increased poverty. IFAD, together with the Turkish government, is supporting women in central Anatolia and helping them set up their own businesses. Nazlı is one of them. After going through a divorce which forced her and her two daughters to move back to her father's house, she was granted a dough-kneading machine which changed her life. Now, she is baking baklava, börek and other Turkish delicacies for clients all over the region and beyond. With six other women, she also founded a cooperative in her town. They received additional machinery and equipment through the Göksu Taşeli Watershed Development Project, improving hygiene, workflow and moving towards mass production. Launched in 2015, the Göksu Taşeli Watershed Development Project is being implemented in selected villages within nine districts in the Konya and Karaman provinces of Central Anatolia. As of 2025, the project has reached 100,602 individuals. Half of them are women: they report reduced workloads, more efficient time use and improved household incomes, driven by access to productive assets such as small tractors, household food processing equipment and greenhouses.
