I'll admit it, while this is my go-to lens for birds and wildlife it just doesn't excite me when it comes to astrophotography. DISCLAIMER: Careful review and comparisons of the samples to other images taken at the same time on the same night but with different optics, and comparing those other images to still other images taken of the same objects with the same alternate optics on other nights leads me to believe that the sky transparency wasn't the best. This will directly exaggerate halation and star bloat, but it wont really have any affect on the rendering of vignetting, astigmatism, chromatic aberration, field curvature, coma, field distortion, etc. Still, I'd recommend assessing the star bloat cautiously. Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS -- Tracked samples were tracked using the Fornax Mounts LighTrack II. (Fervent Astronomy is Fornax's North American Distributor): https://ferventastronomy.com/Products... -- Vetting a lens for astrophotography can be a bit of a pain, as most reviews don't dive deep into lens performance when used on the night sky. As such, I have been compelled to create lens reviews specifically for astrophotographers, which dig into lens performance in somewhat exhaustive detail - all to uncover how the lens performs on the stars. -- To download samples and read up on some of the information discussed in this video, just follow this link: https://ferventastronomy.com/Reviews/...
