"The Huntington's Disease Adventure" Who Am I ?    Hi there, my name is Dimitri Poffé, I am 31 years old and am from France.    Living with Huntington's disease from a young age, I lost my dad with Huntington's disease over 15 years ago. For 8 years, my sister has also had it.    For myself, being asymptomatic until now, I made the choice, 2 years ago, to get a test and find out whether or not I carried the gene that is responsible for it. The latter turned out to be positive. I learned that I would develop the disease between 35 and 40 years old.   This announcement motivated me to realize a dream: travel the world ! So I travelled for about 2 years all over the world. North / South America, New Zealand and Asia. It was a marvellous experience which was definitely rewarding. My project :    My plan today is to hit the road again, but this time with a new goal. I plan to cross South America by bike for “Huntington France Association” and then cover almost 15,000 km. Beyond a sporting feat, the objective is above all to increase the visibility of this rare disease and to raise funds for research.    This project would also allow me to meet Huntington's associations in Latin America and inspire as many people as possible affected by this orphan disease.     Why travelling by bike ?    I made the choice to go on this trip by bike and take the time to meet as much people as I can. The idea is to communicate and raise awareness about Huntington's disease. Besides that biking is way of travelling with a low impact on global warming.    My wish is to leave towards the end of 2020 in order to have optimal weather conditions. Of course with the current global pandemic, the itinerary may change and the health situation requires to adapt my plan.    "ExploreforHuntington" is a project supported by the Association Huntington France. I am currently looking for sponsorship and / or partnerships to help me get a bike and equipment for this adventure!    The funds collected from the pot will go directly to the Huntington France Association for research and a possible part for the preparation of the project.
