They have a ton of important vitamins and minerals and offer different health benefits for our bodies. We commonly choose to eat ripe bananas because of this, and because of their taste, but did you know that eating unripe green bananas also has many health benefits? Importantly, if we are going to eat green bananas, they will need to be boiled or fried first, with boiled generally being the more healthier choice. Lets discuss the health benefits of green bananas and how they can add important benefits to your diet. One benefit that green bananas has over yellow bananas is that they are “starchier”. More specifically, they contain resistant starch. This is a type of starch that is not digested the same way as other starches are. Rather then being broken down by our bodies, it will pass through the intestines unchanged, similar to the characteristics of insoluble fibre. By consuming this resistant starch regularly, this can offer a number of important health benefits. It can provide several changes to our metabolism and reduce fat storage while also increasing the rate of fat burning since it may block the ability of the body to use carbohydrates as fuel. It can also improve insulin sensitivity while also decreasing glycemic and insulin responses. This can be beneficial for those individuals who type 2 diabetes. Also, it can lower plasma cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in the body which can promote our overall health. Another reason to enjoy green bananas is that they are full of healthy fibre. One cup of boiled green bananas contains about 3.6 grams of fibre. This will help with the proper functioning of the digestive tract and overall digestion. It can also make you feel more full, which is important for those individuals who are trying to lose weight. It can also promote healthy bowel movement and again be beneficial for those individuals with diabetes. Green bananas are a great food choice for the “good” bacteria that is in our bodies. These bacteria that are found in our intestines will be able to benefit from the resistant starch that is found in green bananas, helping to keep the digestive tract an stomach healthy. The good intestinal bacteria will ferment the resistant starch and then use it to make energy, helping to get rid of unwanted bad bacteria. It also will produce short-chain fatty acids that help to keep the colon healthy and allows us to absorb nutrients from the healthy foods we eat better. Green bananas, just like yellow bananas, are high in a number of vitamins and minerals. They are a great source of potassium. One cup of boiled green bananas contains about 531 mg’s of potassium. They also contain good amounts of vitamin C and B vitamins. To prepare green bananas, place the whole, unpeeled banana into a pot of boiling water. It is often recommended that you let them boil for about 20 minutes or until they are soft enough to be pierced with a fork easily. Now remove it from the boiling water. You will be able to easily remove the peel since it will be soft. Thank you for watching the video! Please like, comment and share.
