PART THREE: • Onboard The Midland Pullman HST - The Roya... Finally after the trip being postponed from earlier in the year the weekend arrived. 3 days onboard the beautiful Midland Pullman HST for the "Royal Highland Pullman" tour. The tour set off from London St Pancras on Saturday 30th October bound for Inverness. The train picks up in various stations along the Midland Mainline including going via Corby, Oakham & Melton Mowbray before a final pickup at Loughborough. From there we continue north via Toton, Chesterfield, Doncaster and up the East Coast Mainline at 125 to Edinburgh where we had a 10 minute break. Before continuing via Stirling & Perth up the Highland Mainline before finally reaching Inverness, a distance of 610 miles from St Pancras. Now I was planning on uploading one video from the trip, however I realised I had far too much footage for that so I've split it into 3 parts, 1 for each day of the tour. The Blue, Midland Pullman HST is hauled by 2x VP185 ex EMR power cars those being 43055 & 046. The coaching stock is made up of ex GWR First Class & Buffet coaches are from the coach with the guards compartment. This was previously a "TGS" standard class coach for GWR but it has been refitted with First class seating for the Pullman service is now a "TGF". This video includes a good insight as to what's onboard in the First Class De Luxe seating as well as some of the beautiful views on route and of course the HST & VP185 engines in action doing their thing. Tables were laid with fresh linen and complimentary snacks & copious amounts of tea & coffee throughout the journey. More food & drinks were available to purchase from the buffet or bought to your seat by the fantastic onboard staff. Couldn't fault the staff at all. They were incredible and on hand whenever you needed them. Very friendly & chatty with everyone and informative about the train, the history of the Pullman service and the journey. On your table was also a guide to the journey and provided was a time sheet each day so you could follow our route and progress up the country. It was so good to be back onboard a VP185 powered HST and with classic mk3 coaches. Some of the sounds from the engines and the coaches are fantastic. Brings back good memories of these incredible trains when they were in regular use across the country.
