Introductory Biochemistry Lab-Cell Lysis
A cell lysis is performed to extract molecular components from cells. In this video, a cell pellet containing E. coli cells induced to express His-tagged GFP is lysed to release cellular protein. Protein is separated from other cellular debris via centrifugation in preparation for purification of His-tagged GFP. Whenever working in a lab, be sure to follow the local lab safety protocols like washing your hands, wearing PPE, and avoiding touching your face. Thank you for protecting your own health and the health of others by taking these preventative measures. This video is part of an online learning initiative for lab education during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is intended to accompany a comprehensive curriculum covering introductory biochemistry and molecular biology techniques and concepts.
