Well, it's my first youtube onboard upload for almost 3 years as I've been out of action for that long. Back firing on all cylinders I again joined my buddy, client and co-driver 'Dangerous' Dave Shead in a Clubsport Trophy race on the Silverstone National. Frankenstein (our M3-engined BMW E36 Compact) our usual berth, was too ill to come out an play so we rented a Renault Clio 200 'last-minute (3-days before) from SK Motorsport. Neither I nor Dave had driven the car before quali and although we both have extensive experience in FWD neither of us had raced FWD for almost 20 years! With a full grid of 41 cars we qualified 6th in class (of 9) - might have been a bit higher if I could have pressed the gas pedal all the way down but I was somewhat vertically challenged. We did have some problems with the gearshift which also hampered us but Shay and Ben managed to get it a bit better for the race. We both struggled to select 4th gear meaning a) a very deliberate and slow shift from 3rd and a nervous 5th to 4th downshift which many times we avoided by holding the car on the limiter briefly. This cost us maybe 0.5 to 1 sec but now used to the car, we went almost 3 secs a lap quicker in the race. Dave is mustard on a standing start but has done very few rolling starts but did a great job, getting past 6 or so car by Turn 2 and making up 10 places on Lap 1 with a combination of skill, some words of coaching from yours truly and BRAVERY. Sadly a gremlin or lack of fuel meant the car lost power on the last corner on the last lap and I just had to roll it into the pitlane for an eventual DNF Thanks to Shay and Ben from SK Motorsport who provided a great car but Dave & Myself just did not have enough time in the car to sort the gearshift and we are both 'a bit rusty' with FWD machinery. Hopefully FRANKENSTEIN will be BACK SOON
