Here is Part 1 of a driving video showing my journey in and around Bridgetown. This video starts from King Street, one of the city's residential areas and ends at Whitepark Road on the city's outskirts. Bridgetown is the capital city of Barbados and is one of the country's four main towns (Speightstown, Holetown and Oistins are the other three). Located in the parish of St. Michael, it is one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean. It is the home of one of the oldest parliaments in the Western Hemisphere and the only remaining screw dock in the world. Ancient buildings, modern offices, shops, parks, and even a river can be found in the city. The name 'Bridgetown' is derived from the long demolished Indian Bridge which once spanned the Constitution river. Two new bridges now take its place: The Chamberlain Bridge (pedestrian and bikes only) and the Charles Duncan O'Neal Bridge. Other landmarks and popular places in Bridgetown include Broad Street, Swan Street, Queen's Park, and Heroes' Square. The city will celebrate its 400th anniversary in 2028. Part 2 will show my journey out of Bridgetown and on to a suburban location. Stay tuned for that.
