It’s been a week since I journeyed over into Italy to climb the Colle Delle Finestre before Simon Yates performed his stunning upset for Visma Lease a Bike to take Pink from Isaac Del Toro and win the Giro d’Italia 2025. Not since Chris Froome, has the ‘beautiful race’ visited the famous half gravel, half tarmac category one epic. Perhaps poetic then that the man he beat that day in 2018 should perform a similar act of cycling heroics to topple UAE at the last hurdle.
