Fifty-two farmers in the three Northern Regions have received a maize sheller, which also doubles as a multi crop thresher to facilitate post harvest activities and reduce post harvest losses. Post harvest losses are a major challenge to both commercial and smallholder farmers in the agricultural sector. It is more so for the smallholder farmers as they are unable to access the appropriate machinery to thresh and convey their produce on time due to cost. In a bit to address this problem, the Feed the Future Agricultural Technology Transfer Project with support from a USAID grant programme to farmers, has presented multi-purpose threshers which will be used in threshing maize, millet, soya beans to some farmers in the three Northern regions. Beneficiaries of the machines are expected to provide services for other farmers in their various communities. Blessing Kemakolam is the Grants Manager for the Project. SOT 1: Blessing Kemakolam, Grants Manager, IFDC The Chief of Party for the Feed the Future Agricultural Technology Transfer Project, Michael Dockrey, said the use of improved seeds and technology will help increase production.
