Cabinet Approves Revised Dairy Development Program & Rashtriya Gokul Mission with Rs 6,190 Crore Outlay The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved the revised National Program for Dairy Development (NPDD) and Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) with an enhanced budget of Rs 6,190 crore to modernize dairy infrastructure, boost milk production, and improve farmers' incomes. Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned the establishment of the Namrup IV Fertilizer Plant in Assam under Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL). Revised National Program for Dairy Development (NPDD) – Rs 2,790 Crore Additional Rs 1,000 crore allocated for 2021-26. Component A: Infrastructure development, including milk chilling plants, testing labs, and dairy cooperative societies, with special focus on North Eastern and hilly regions. Component B (Dairying through Cooperatives - DTC): Collaboration with Japan's JICA to improve dairy production in nine states. Impact: Establishment of 10,000 new dairy cooperatives, two Milk Producer Companies, and strengthening of dairy processing in the North East. Revised Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) – Rs 3,400 Crore Additional Rs 1,000 crore allocated for genetic improvement of indigenous cattle. Key Initiatives: 35% capital assistance for 30 Heifer Rearing Centres (total 15,000 heifers). 3% interest subvention for farmers buying high-genetic-merit IVF heifers. Expansion of Artificial Insemination (AI) & breed improvement programs. Nationwide AI Programme: Free AI services in 605 districts; 8.39 crore animals covered, benefiting 5.21 crore farmers.
