Testing Perplexity's Comet Browser: Is This the Future of Web Browsing? Perplexity AI just dropped their "agentic" browser called Comet, and it's exactly what you'd expect from a company trying to reinvent everything Google does. I got access to test this thing, and here's what actually matters. What Comet Actually Is: Built on Chromium, Comet integrates Perplexity's AI search directly into your browsing experience. The browser can perform real agentic tasks—it signed up for gigs on Fiverr, found crypto airdrops, and participated in X contests, all from a single prompt during testing This isn't just another AI chatbot bolted onto Chrome; it's designed to browse and act autonomously. Key Features I Tested: ✓ Native ad blocker (actually works) ✓ Agentic browsing for plane tickets & trips ✓ Referencing open tabs in search queries Currently limited to Apple Silicon Macs it seems at this time. What's Coming: Perplexity is developing Scheduled Tasks and Memory features, plus native Gmail and Google Calendar integration for automated scheduling and email processing Internal logs show Comet can already post to X autonomously through headless sessions—essentially browsing the web for you. I am eager to try THIS out. Bottom Line: This is either the future of browsing or another VC-funded experiment that'll disappear in two years. The agentic features work, but whether they're useful enough to switch from Chrome depends on how much you value AI automation over browser stability.
