So come see the culmination of another 6 months of work, only 2 of which were spent gaming. Romans had a long journey from a town of shepherds to one of the greatest empires of antiquity. And they believed they owed that incredible journey to the favor bestowed on them by the gods. But how exactly did the Romans see their gods? Were they scary things to be placated? Friendly guys who loved you and wanted the best for you? Incomprehensible beings who barely noticed humans? Well the truth is, that view changed over time. So join me, as we explore the evidence for how that changed, and why. And hopefully, by the end, you'll see why Rome was primed to Christianize. In Part 1, we're examining the archaic period, a time when Romans weren't writing stuff down, and were going absolutely insane for Greek pottery. We'll examine how Rome, just another city in the Latin area of Italy, would come to know the gods better than their neighbors.
