Poverty levels have been on the rise, in many districts in India. Hundreds of people are being forced to take to the streets, and living in slums and very unsafe conditions. Add to that, with the new challenges due to COVID, the situation further worsened for these communities. Thousands of people who were living on minimum daily wages, working in cities hundreds of miles from their hometown villages, are suddenly left with nothing, nowhere to turn to for their basic needs, no way to return to their homes. Hunger-stricken, homeless and famished, people are living in very pathetic situations. It is evident that the lock-down has disproportionately hurt Muslims who are minority in the country- they have lost their livelihood, shelter, security and basic amenities. KMCA has been partnering with local grassroots organizations based in India, to address the sufferings of these communities.
