My father and I were born and raised in the same exact geographical spot - A village called Rameh in the Galilee. However, he was born in 1936 in what was called Palestine, while in 1975 I was born in Israel. The song Yaba is about our identity as native Palestinian citizens of this troubled homeland. Translation: You say: "Tell them our story We are the ones who are still hanging on The ones who were not defeated by wars Nor scattered by the years The ones who still pick olives From trees that my dead grandfather planted The ones who stayed put while leaderships changed We are the voice of the mountain And the shiver in the eucalyptus branches We are the wheat and the sieve And the lighthouse on the port". Father, father. Father, I feel like a tree Big and ancient That has been in this land for generations It has deep roots But has no space The skies above it have bars Against which the branches break. Father, our land is beneath our feet But we have no homeland We live in houses of stone But feel in exile. Father, I am tired But not despaired Father, I am the voice of the mountain I am the shiver in the eucalyptus branches I am the wheat and the sieve And the lighthouse on the port Father FB - / miraawad Instagram - / miraaawad Mira Awad Website: https://www.miraawad.co/
