The Pennsylvania Military College Band experienced a banner 1965 class year. Of course, the Band was a centerpiece of the numerous parades at PMC, so military duties always came first. Also, the Band's buglers and drummers were kept busy EVERY day, just as they are on all military posts and schools. Band members also had to find time to study, as well as athletic participation. The Band's first major "side project" of the '65 year was to begin practice sessions for cutting a record album. YES, it was a first, so it was a very important project. The '66 year Band also cut an album, but that is another video. This video is SIDE ONE of the 1965 album. SIDE TWO will be COMING SOON and will contain production credits, etc. The original record album featured 12 tunes. This video adds THREE additional great tunes which could have been on the album, but space was not available. OTHER 1965 YEAR BAND PERFORMANCES In addition to cutting a record album, the Band participated in the National ROTC Band Association competition held in May '65 at the NY World's Fair in Flushing Meadows (Queens Borough), New York. The event was a two-day affair. The first evening, held in Jersey City, NJ, was the concert phase which was won by a fine concert band from East Tennessee State University. The following day was the marching phase, held in Singer Bowl (now Louis Armstrong Stadium) at the World's Fair. It was a beautiful, but grueling day in the sun. Pennsylvania Military College prevailed and took home the marching phase trophy. View PMC's winning marching performance here: • PMC Band wins 1965 National ROTC marching ... Earlier in 1965 the Band had marched in the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade which was televised by two TV networks. THAT was a very COLD March day, but a beautiful experience, nonetheless, for the Band. The thousands of spectators lining the route approved! Band members were allowed a few hours to roam NYC before busing back to campus.
