This book is very popular with classical society, even today on the island of Bali. The story of Sutasoma itself has a Buddhist background, but in it gives a picture of the acculturation between Buddha and Shiva. Kakawin Sutasoma has been handed down until now in the form of handwritten manuscripts, both in papyrus and paper. Almost all of these kakawin manuscripts come from the island of Bali. The Merapi-Merbabu collection is a collection of ancient manuscripts originating from the area around the Merapi and Merbabu mountains in Central Java. With this it can be ascertained that this text really comes from the island of Java and not the island of Bali.
