In his video we'll learn about the meaning of Bypoll elections or By elections. Bypoll election means the process of selection of candidate to the state assembly or Lok Sabha after the general elections are done. You see every five years, general elections are held. Through this process, the citizens of India elect a member of parliament for Lok Sabha and a member of legislative assembly through direct voting. These MPs and MLAs have a term period of 5 years. However, due to some reasons sometimes these MPs and MLAs do not finish their term period of 5 years. Basically a seat remains vacant. Now to fill that particular seat, re-election is done. This is what is called as bypoll election.
