Karanka then honed his skills as a number one at Middlesbrough, where he had to adapt his team to the challenges of the Premier League after promotion from the Championship, and later at Nottingham Forest. Over the course of a varied career, Karanka has developed his favoured style of play and how best to train his players to suit his philosophy.
