Krithi: Tamra lochani Latangi Ragam: Lathangi Thalam: Adi Composer: Dr M Balamuralikrishna Vocal : Dr.M Balamuralikrishna Dr. Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna (1930–2016) was a legendary Indian Carnatic vocalist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and musicologist. Born on July 6, 1930, in Andhra Pradesh, he displayed extraordinary musical talent from an early age. By the age of eight, he had already composed his first kriti and performed in public concerts.A prodigious artist, Balamuralikrishna mastered multiple instruments, including the violin, viola, mridangam, and kanjira, besides excelling as a vocalist. His voice was known for its clarity, wide range, and perfect control over intricate gamakas (ornamentations). He introduced innovative ragas such as Mahati, Lavangi, and Rohini, which have only four or five swaras instead of the usual seven. Throughout his illustrious career, he performed across the world, collaborating with artists from both Carnatic and Hindustani traditions as well as Western musicians. His ability to blend traditional and modern styles made his music universally appealing. Balamuralikrishna received numerous prestigious honors, including the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, recognizing his immense contributions to Indian classical music. He also composed over 400 kritis and contributed significantly to the development of Carnatic music. A revered figure in the music world, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna's legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians and music lovers. His unique style, unmatched creativity, and dedication to music have cemented his place as one of India's greatest classical musicians.
