Oil pretreatments change the color and appearance of hardwood floors, and will often help you achieve a more consistent color pattern than most floor stains. The results depend entirely on the species receiving the stain, and you can choose different pretreatments for different effects. The WOCA softwood lye pretreatment, for example, will keep pine floors from yellowing. To apply a WOCA oil pretreatment to a hardwood floor: 1) Make sure the floor is sanded to NWFA standards and completely free of dust and debris. 2) Apply the pretreatment along the grain of the wood using an applicator pad, natural bristle brush, or a roller. 3) Let the floor dry overnight. 4) De-nib the floor with a green or maroon polishing pad attached to a buffer.
