It began in the slums around St Pancras and Euston railway stations, and was created to clear ramshackle housing and build good quality homes for local people. The fundraising skills of Father Basil Jellicoe and the commitment of Irene Barclay did a great deal to drive the rebuilding process, inspired by the organisation’s first vision statement: “housing is not enough”
