STORYLINE: Relatives of Fernando Villavicencio arrived on Friday at the Vertical Cemetery in Quito to bid farewell to the presidential candidate of Ecuador, who was assassinated last Wednesday. Tamia Villavicencio, daughter of the politician, held an emotional moment when she played the drum and sang outside the cemetery in memory of her father. "My daddy put the fight against the corruption of a country on his shoulders. That's what happens when you are alone," she told the media. Villavicencio's daughter asked for patience from her father's followers, who wanted to say goodbye. "Please know there is a danger to the family, and such a big ceremony is complicated", Tamia Villavicencio said outside the cemetery gates. Ecuador will hold six Colombian men for at least a month as the country probes their possible involvement in the slaying of a presidential candidate whose life’s work was fighting crime and corruption, the national prosecutor’s office said Friday. Villavicencio’s funeral was also being held for relatives, along with a public ceremony in the capital's convention center. Villavicencio was not a front-runner in the race, but his assassination in broad daylight less than two weeks before a special presidential election showed how hard it will be for Ecuador’s next leader to curb the gangs and cartels whose activities have claimed thousands of lives.
