Rebel Governance and the Survival of Insurgencies

October 30, 2014: Professors Christopher Day and Zachariah Mampilly discuss "Rebel Governance and the Survival of Insurgencies." The progam was sponsored by the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute for War and Peace Studies and moderated by Dipali Mukhopadhyay, assistant professor of international and public affairs at SIPA. Christopher Day is an assistant professor at the College of Charleston. He has published articles in Comparative Politics and Civil Wars, and has written opinion pieces for Al-Jazeera, The Daily Beast, and the Post & Courier. His current book project examines the various fates of different rebel groups in Africa. Zachariah Mampilly is the director of Africana Studies and associate professor of political science and international studies at Vassar College. In 2012-2013, he was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is the author of "Rebel Rulers: Insurgent Governance and Civilian Life During War" (Cornell U. Press 2011). Another book, "Africa Uprising! Popular Politics and Political Change," co-written with Adam Branch, is forthcoming from Zed Press.
