The city of Larvik is located in the Norwegian district of Vestfold-i-Telemark on the banks of the Larvik Fjord, which flows into the strait between Denmark and Norway - the Skagerrak. The settlement in the fjord has existed since the 800s, that is, since the time of the Vikings, then it was an important trading port, it was located a little to the east and was called Kaupang. And to this day, ferries run from the port of Larvik towards the Danish port of Hirtshals. By the way, we managed to catch the departure of the Color Line morning ferry. This is a wonderful sight! Larvik is also famous for being the hometown of the Norwegian traveler Thor Heyerdahl. We walked through the narrow streets near his house and admired the beautiful doors and architecture. A monument to Thor Heyerdahl is erected on the shore of the Larviksfjorden. In Larvik, on a wide sandy beach, one of the largest Spa Hotels in Norway, Faris Bad, is located. Its area is 2500 square meters. And tourists from all over the world come here for various wellness procedures! North of the city on the shores of Lake Farris, the Farisbrua Bridge was completed in 2018. The bridge is part of the E18 route, which in this place takes an elegant bend. Its length is 570 meters. And the height of the bridge supports is 70 meters. Behind the bridge towards the city, you can see the northernmost beech forest - Bøkeskogen. Leaves on the trees are just beginning to appear because May is early spring in Norway. We will definitely return here in the summer to walk among the majestic trees, some of which are over a hundred years old. The city is located on the hills and from the hill Mesterfjellet offers a wonderful view of the city and the fjord, we recommend visiting it! To the south, there are the Golf courses of Larvik Golfklubb, where the grass is already quite green and they look juicy and attractive to the eye of a traveler tired of winter landscapes!
