Garur Ganga Temple is a serene and spiritually significant shrine nestled on the banks of the Garur Ganga stream near the village of Pakhi. According to Skanda Purana, Lord Garuda performed intense penance here after slaying snakes, seeking the boon of becoming Vishnu’s vahana. The temple marks the spot where Garuda’s tapasya occurred. Many pilgrims bathe here to cleanse sin (nāga-doṣha) and consume the water for spiritual merit. The bubbling stream is considered purifying and medicinal. It’s one of the rare Himalayan temples dedicated solely to Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s mount, symbolizing devotion and divine service. Pebbles from the stream are believed to ward off snakes, scorpions, and negative energies. Devotees often take these home and use them in household foundations or keep them as talismans.
