Any restriction of mouth opening inevitably leads to the supposition of abnormalities in the temporomandibular joint. If we do not evaluate other possibilities we can infer wrong hypotheses and establish inadequate treatments. This patient presented the rare condition of CORONOID PROCESS HYPERPLASIA that, touching the malar region, prevented the correct opening of the mouth. After surgery, the stomatognathic musculature demands special attention for the masticatory rehabilitation, since the coronoid process transsection leads to loss of temporal muscle function.
