One of the plastic pieces that attaches the sternum strap to my Osprey Kestral 48 backpack broke recently. It was my fault. I forgot to cinch the shoulder straps first and then connect the sternum strap. I had connected the sternum strap first and cinched it tightly. I then tightened the shoulder straps with a yank. This pulled against the sternum strap and broke one of the plastic pieces that glides up and down for adjusting the position of the sternum strap across the chest. I called Osprey and with no fuss, they told me they would ship a new strap. Of course I had to fill out an online form, send a photo, and an image of the receipt from REI, where I purchased the backpack. It took several weeks to receive the replacement strap. They actually sent both halves. It’s good that they did, because they have apparently reversed the direction of the buckle that has the whistle. This meant that I had to replace both halves, and the buckle with the whistle is now on my left side. The customer support representative at Osprey had already warned me how difficult this operation would be. He offered some tips regarding how to fit the new plastic piece over the track that it must slide onto. That part is very difficult. This video will show how I did it.
