Can tiny vesicles offer big hope for lung disease patients? Dr. Yu Fujita from the The Jikei University School of Medicine thinks so. In an exclusive interview with GeneOnline, Dr. Fujita shares how he's leading the charge on extracellular vesicle (EV)-based therapeutics to treat tough conditions like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and COPD; two diseases that desperately need better options. Originally trained as a medical doctor in Japan, Dr. Fujita shifted gears into research after seeing firsthand the limitations of current treatments. Now, with a PhD and postdoc experience from top institutions in Tokyo and San Diego, he’s pioneering a new approach that uses lung-derived EVs to target multiple disease pathways at once. “Our preclinical data shows EVs from healthy lung cells can actually stop the progression of IPF,” he says. And that's just the beginning; COPD is next. More exclusive content here: https://lnkd.in/dXtSXZ5u
