Teaching Pigeon Youngsters to Eat Corn

Do you know if all your pigeons eat the corn from the feeding mix? Over the years I noticed a few pigeons not eating corn and this made me curious and more interested in this. Now once in a while I notice another pigeon not eating corn, especially the ones I buy from other lofts. This is mostly because fanciers don't have the time or pleasure to watch their pigeons as they eat. Observe your pigeons when they eat, how much they eat and what they eat - you'll get valuable information. I saw a lot of stray pigeons entering my loft that didn't know or refused to eat corn. The most intriguing are two stock loft females I bought that simply do not touch the corn. They even suffer during winter when the mix is light and doesn't have much corn and the other small grains they take aren't so high in calories. At feeding time they go nuts with their wings open picking small grains in a frenzy. When the other pigeons are already done eating and go to sleep, these no-corn females go crazy around the empty feeding tray eating cereal dust and other leftovers trying to compensate. Not sure if this is just a wrong instinct and if it can be educated in the youngster stage but I like to teach them all anyway.
