Shri Rudrāṣṭakam, composed by Goswami Tulsidas, is one of the most profound hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva (Mahadeva). This sacred stotra describes Shiva as formless yet all-pervading, timeless, compassionate, the destroyer of sorrow, fear, and illusion. Chanting Rudrāṣṭakam brings inner peace, detachment, spiritual clarity, protection from suffering, and liberation from worldly bondage. It is especially powerful during Shravan month, Mondays, Mahashivratri, meditation, and daily Shiva sadhana. This rendition includes the complete Sanskrit text with full English meaning, allowing deeper devotion and understanding. 📖 FULL ENGLISH TRANSLATION (COMPLETE) Verse 1 I bow to the Supreme Lord, whose form is liberation itself, All-pervading, the essence of the Vedas and Brahman. Formless, desireless, changeless, beyond qualities, Pure consciousness residing in the infinite space. Verse 2 Formless, the root of Om, the transcendental fourth state, Beyond knowledge and ignorance, Lord of mountains. Fierce yet compassionate, master of time and death, Treasure of virtues who ferries souls across samsara. Verse 3 White like the Himalayas, profound and majestic, With a body radiant like millions of Cupids. The sacred Ganga flowing from His matted locks, The crescent moon shining on His forehead, serpent on His neck. Verse 4 With moving earrings, a wide and divine third eye, Serene face, blue-throated, ocean of compassion. Clad in tiger skin, adorned with skull garlands, Beloved Shankara, Lord of all, I worship You. Verse 5 Fierce, supreme, radiant, unborn and indestructible, Shining like millions of suns. Destroyer of the three kinds of suffering, wielder of the trident, Consort of Bhavani, attainable through devotion alone. Verse 6 Beyond time, source of all auspiciousness, destroyer at cosmic end, Eternal giver of joy to the righteous, slayer of Tripura. Ocean of bliss, remover of delusion— Be gracious, O enemy of Kamadeva. Verse 7 Until one worships the lotus feet of Uma’s Lord, Neither in this world nor the next is there true happiness. Grant peace, remove all suffering— O indweller of all beings, be gracious. Verse 8 I know not yoga, japa, or worship. I bow to You always, O Shambhu. Afflicted by birth, old age, and sorrow— Protect me, O Lord, O Ishana, O Shambhu. Phala Shruti This Rudrāṣṭakam, composed by a Brahmin (Tulsidas) to please Lord Shiva, Grants Shiva’s grace to all who recite it with devotion. #Rudrashtakam #LordShiva #Mahadev #ShivaBhakti #OmNamahShivaya
