At age 17, she won the National Performers Competition of Kyrgyzstan and was selected to accompany the nation’s president and first lady on a diplomatic tour of Russia, Turkey, and Switzerland, performing for international dignitaries and heads of state. Classically trained from a young age and a graduate of the prestigious Eastman School of Music, Nurmira performs across a wide range of styles, including classical, folk, rock, and pop. She plays a custom-made five-string electric cello, a 300-year-old Italian cello, and an array of Central Asian folk instruments. Her recent performance venues include The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the United Nations, and the Aspen Music Festival. She has served as principal cellist for the Equinox Symphony and Mercury Opera, performed with the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and string quartet Four Known, and has been a featured performer and lecturer for the Asia-Pacific History Foundation and The Asia Society. Her album, My Kyrgyzstan—available on all major streaming platforms—showcases her innovative and dynamic performance style.
