This video is meant to provide a rough outline of the procedure needed to swap out the engine covers on Triumph's Modern Classic 1200cc engine. Per the Triumph shop manual, torque spec for bolts on both covers is 10 Nm. It was brought to my attention that I may not have done a great job explaining the section where I discussed sealing the hole in the alternator cover where the wiring loom comes through. Hopefully this will help clear that up! So if you think about what the alternator is doing (recharging the battery), it makes sense that there has to be some wiring to carry the generated electricity back to the battery. But that assembly also lives inside of an engine cover which needs to remain oil tight so that it doesn’t leak. This means that at the point where the cable intersects the engine cover, there is a rubber grommet around the wiring loom which creates a seal. You’ll see at that all around that grommet, there was some sort of sealant applied from the factory. When reinstalling, you need something like some gasket maker there to keep that seal. I used silicone because that’s what I had available. I would also recommend allowing whatever you've used to dry for the manufacturer's recommended amount of time before refilling with oil.
