If you know someone with advancing Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, this video series is for you. This is Part II of Understanding & Coping with Dementia, three videos about Alzheimer's disease that may be the earliest videos produced on the subject. Made over three years with grants from Sandoz Pharmaceuticals. The series focuses on the three phases of this so-far incurable disease: Discovery, Home Care, and Final Outcome (institutionalization and inevitable death). This video focuses on at-home care of Alzheimer's patients, which remains viable today, but depends on preventing the total exhaustion of the caregiver, usually a spouse, son or daughter. Techniques for home care are detailed and the experiences of real caregivers and professional social workers dominate the content. The series remains useful today because very little medical advancement has transpired since the 1980s. Part of the problem was caused by fraudulent research that wasted 16 years of research grants. This series was completed long before that discovery. Today, there is still no cure. The original was shot and edited on 3/4" videotape in 1982. We ask your patience in watching since several videotape errors caused by storage could not be invisibly repaired. Avekta Productions specialized in creating informative, sponsored documentaries in English and all foreign languages.
