Meanwhile, Palestinians living in refugee camps in Lebanon were more subdued, quietly marking the passage of fifty years since the creation of Israel with a march by small children. Children from various Palestinian schools walked through the camps carrying Palestinian flags. Near Syria, demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and banners on which were written the names of cities they fled in former Palestine following the 1948 war. They shouted slogans affirming their right to return to their former homes and denouncing Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat for "selling out the Palestinian cause."
