A year after the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, international media, experts, and organisations were still lost in translation and kept misusing the terms to describe the war. On February 24, 2023, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a campaign addressed to all of them to use the terms right because #WordsMatter. An international campaign by Lithuanian MFA took a critical look at the headlines in Arabic, English, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish language media and called upon them to stop using the terms "Ukrainian war", "War in Ukraine", "Ukraine conflict", and asked to clearly name the aggressor – Russia and Russia's war against Ukraine. Using inaccurate terminology provides fertile ground for Russian disinformation and creates a general misunderstanding of the situation.
