Scuba Gear Testing - Full Face Mask - Ocean Reef Sport Line GDivers IDM So dear old dad has been struggling with sinus issues over the past few years which has led him to become a nose breather which is a "no no" in scuba diving..... with a standard diver's mask . So thanks to Seminole Scuba, we were able to rent a full face mask to see if it would make diving & breathing easier for dad. Scuba Kitty took the opportunity to try it out as well. We tried Ocean Reef's Sport Line GDivers IDM (Integrated Diving Mask). Ocean Reef has two levels of IDMs: Sport Line & Professional. There is a lot of options to go from a basic full face mask to one that allows for items like visor lights & camera attachments to various levels for professionals to work in contaminated waters or in movie making. Both lines allow for adding communication units. The Sport Line gives a more affordable option for a diver that would benefit from a full face mask without getting into all the fancy extra options a professional may require for their work. Full face masks or IDMs are good options for divers who suffer from severe jaw fatigue from holding/biting on their regulator mouth piece or are nose breathers. Being able to communicate underwater can be beneficial for multiple reasons. Sometimes divers are going into more dangerous situations that can benefit from being able to more easily communicate with their dive buddy or up top. Full face masks also allow divers to talk to their audience while making a video. After testing out Ocean Reef's Sport Line GDivers IDM, we found that nose breathing dad could definitely benefit from a full face mask. Scuba Kitty saw the benefits or uses of a full face mask, but for her diving experience she prefers the standard mask & regulator. If you are a professional diver or a recreational diver suffering from jaw fatigue or need for nose breathing then an IDM is definitely something to consider. Also, if you need to be able to talk underwater then IDMs have the option to add a communication device.
