43 year old female, para 1, history of a cesarean section, presents with menorrhagia (heavy vaginal bleeding) causing symptomatic anemia. She is lightheaded, short of breath, has dyspnea on exertion. She has a constant ringing in her ears. She is found to have a large submucosal fibroid (myoma). She has an endometrial biopsy that reveals benign endometrium and a benign endometrial polyp. Her complete blood count shows a hemoglobin of 6 g/dl. She is given depo-provera 150 mg intramuscularly and started on oral iron supplements. About 1 month later, her hemoglobin improves to 10 g/dl, and she is brought to the operating room.
