Want to know how PvP competitive mode of Marvel Champions is played? Check out this match between Quicksilver with leader Captain America vs Gamora with leader Iron Man. This is the first gameplay video I've made , so it includes a few mistakes. I may have missed some, so don't hesitate to correct me if I missed anything! The quality isn't great, but I hope you are able to follow :D First impressions: The leaders aren’t that hard and are pretty straightforward, which we really appreciate. No fear of being beaten quickly a la Ronan style, or having to keep up with dozens of details. We love how you can influence the difficulty by choosing certain 1A/B and 2A/B main schemes. For opponent heroes that are strong in confusing and stunning, you can choose a scheme that gives steady to your leader for example. We also like to surprise each other by assigning random main schemes. It was a bit confusing at first when an encounter card mentioned “leader.” Did it mean my leader in the opponent’s area, or the enemy leader in my area? But we got used to it quickly, and once you consider the theme of the cards and story, it makes sense. I really love that no one can tell you what to play. In co-op that sometimes happens, but here it’s just you and your choices. Feels like a breath of fresh air. The whole experience feels very thematic and is not clunky at all. It’s super fun seeing other heroes appear as minions and others helping you out, and I’m happy more modular sets are coming. I love the interaction through the competitive encounter sets, special leader cards, and modular sets. You don’t feel like you’re just playing a solitaire game without caring what happens to your opponent. Sometimes you can directly manipulate what happens in your opponent’s play area. Another reason it never gets boring is the sequence: you each go through a player phase, and then each a villain phase. So it never takes that long before it’s your turn again. Choosing encounter cards for your opponent is a great twist. If they’re cruising, I’ll pick a tough one (like a minion when the main scheme gives every minion guard). Other times, if they’re struggling, I might slip in something easier without them knowing. It’s nice to have that control over how rough it gets. It’s funny how ingrained co-op habits are, you still want to check the opponent’s turn for mistakes or even advise them on what they’re missing. 😆 The games don’t feel rushed. All of ours took enough time to build up properly, but you really do want to adjust your strategy once you see the opponent is in a good place to start damaging your leader consistently. The main focus is still your chosen hero, not the leader. Although Captain America was my leader, I didn’t need to focus on him much or dictate his moves. The gameplay is primarily about your hero against the enemy’s leader. That makes it exciting to play this mode with all the other heroes and aspects. So we definitely recommend the pvp mode, it's amazing how there are 16 different main schemes and 16 modular sets, which make the mode super replayable.
