Today’s adventure checks off a true bucket-list moment — exploring the Lake Erie Ice Caves at Crystal Beach, Fort Erie, Ontario during the rare deep freeze of February 2026. After weeks of extreme cold pushed Lake Erie to nearly full ice coverage, powerful winds and freezing waves sculpted massive hollow ice shelves, arches, and “ice volcanoes” along the shoreline — some towering more than 15 feet high and glowing an unreal icy blue. These temporary frozen formations are rare natural wonders that only appear under very specific winter conditions.⚠️ Important Safety Note: The Lake Erie ice caves are extremely dangerous and unstable. Local officials warn the structures can be hollow, sit over open water, and collapse without warning, creating a serious risk of hypothermia, injury, or drowning. This video documents the experience and natural beauty of the shoreline — it is not a recommendation to attempt walking on the ice. The safest way to view these formations is from shore or by drone. Join me and my dog Bear as we carefully explore the frozen edge of Lake Erie, capture one of winter’s rarest spectacles, and experience the raw beauty of a Canadian Great Lakes winter. Real adventure. Real winter. Real Canada.
